More good stuff from The Neviller, who got on the blower to discuss David Moyes’ sacking with the Sky Sports News mob this morning, arguing that United let the axe fall too early to justify the length of the contract they handed to Moyes in the first place…

Once again, we find ourselves agreeing 100% with the views of Gary Neville.

Wow. Couldn’t agree more with him, and Moyes was going to be stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place: if he cleared out the staff and players, he’d be accused of throwing away all the ‘talent’ and experience at United. If he kept most of it – as he did – he was being shoehorned as Ferguson, Mk II, and most of those players and staff would view him as not-Ferguson. And as they turned on him, that’s when we began to see the poor form and all the running to the press and the whisper campaign begin.

The issue now is that who wants to step into that spot? Sure, there will be very good managers for that position, but it seemed that initially the board & upper management of United wanted a long-term successor to Ferguson. That won’t happen for a while. They’ll get the 2, possibly 3-yr specialists to come in, get quick results and be on their way to the next big club or challenge. So now United joins the Premier League managerial carousel…

    What Gary said…

Wise words as always from Neville.

I have said here previously that I thought Moyes should have been given at least until the middle of next season.

Give him & the players the summer break to refine a new style, get new players in, get rid of the stragglers etc.

But sadly there does appear to be more to it than a kneejerk reaction. If the rumours are true that the players lost confidence & interest, that has got to be on the manager’s head.

How can a man who steered Everton to consistent respectability for over 10 years suddenly lose his touch?

Did the players EVER respect him? Were they expecting Mourinho / Guardiola / monkey glands to be injected into Ferguson?

So many questions, such a sad time for us fans.

I genuinely liked Moyes, but the performances over the course of the season have been truly dire. I was more than willing to put up with this mediocrity as I honestly expected better things ahead.

I followed Sir Alex’s advice and stuck with the new manager.

Now, we are in limbo. We have no option than to do what every other club does and appoint a famous name for a year or two then sack him when we lose 3 on the trot.

Maybe it’s just me being romantic, but I would love it, I would LOVE IT, if Giggs or Neville himself took over in a few years.

Two United legends who know what it means to be a United fan and who have the passion and knowledge to steer this majestic old club back on its rightful track.

    God I’m depressed today.
