Manchester United caretaker boss Ryan Giggs oversaw a comfortable 4-0 win for the Red Devils on Saturday, although the lack of quality of the opposition means that not too much should be read into the result.

The Canaries put on adecent first-half display, only for a Wayne Rooney spot-kick to finally open the floodgates for the hosts just before the break. Another strike from Rooney in the second half followed by a brace from sub Juan Mata secured a satisfactory debut win for Giggs while Norwich boss Neil Adams now sees his struggling side just a point above the drop-zone with games against Chelsea and Arsenal to come.

    Moyes won his first league game 4-0 as well, if I remember right.

    @Jame, you dont remember right.

    As much as I’d love to see Giggs installed as permanent boss, one game against a team seemingly resigned to relegation does not really say much.

    It’s actually a pity our remaining fixtures are against Sunderland, Hull & Southampton. While yeah, Sunderland will be at our throats as they DO want to survive, Hull should be safe by the time we play them and Southampton have basically nothing to play for. Especially given half their bloody squad will be playing on eggshells with one eye on Brazil.

    A game against the likes of Arsenal, Everton or Spurs would have been a much better gauge of Ryan’s tactics, as they will be our Champions League aspiring peers next season.

    Don’t get me wrong, if Giggs get the job I’ll be ecstatic. I just fear it could damage him the way it’s damaged Moyes if it all goes tits up. A decent League 1 team could be a good fit for Giggs, let him hone his managerial prowess away from the media spotlight.

    For me, van Gaal the obvious choice. I would dare to suggest he is the real first choice for the majority of level-headed United supporters.

    His CV speaks for itself, plus he’ll persuade RVP to stay…

    tl;dr: Giggs needs more experience, van Gaal is favourite to get it
