Yes, Man Utd were very, very good and worked like dogs – epitomised by Park Ji-Sung – but I was shocked at how bad Milan were. I guess the early Rooney goal knocked the stuffing out of them, but still, their lack of athleticism, commitment and ambition – epitomised by the disgracefully lazy Ronaldinho (no wonder Dunga won’t pick him) – was startling. I guess they really missed Pato too.

Only Mathieu Flamini seemed to be up for the fight for Milan, and it’s surely no coincidence that he’s their one player with recent experience of the Premier League; i.e. he knows how much graft is needed to match an Alex Ferguson team, or any Prem team for that matter. Pity he didn’t tell his team-mates, who strolled around Old Trafford like it was a pre-season friendly. Shame on them.

It’s been the same old story in the Champions League in the last decade: Serie A teams can’t – or won’t – match the work rate of Prem teams. It’s not rocket science, or even rocket salad. It’s the three Ts: tempo, tempo, tempo.

Scary to think that AC Milan are in the Serie A title race.
