It’s been more convoluted that your average Hollyoaks script, but it would appear that Marcos Rojo has finally – finally – made his ridiculously protracted move from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United.

The transfer has been beset by legal issues, third-party owners sticking their beaks in, miscellaneous bickering and allegations of industrial espionage, but it seems that the Argentinian centre-half is now on the cusp of officially being sworn in as a United player – at least according to the man himself.

Talking in an interview with Argentinian radio station Continental, Rojo reportedly said: “It feels like a dream, to be a Manchester United player. Leaving Sporting wasn’t easy.”

According to the Telegraph, Rojo is now expected to sign a four-year deal at Old Trafford at some point in the next few days, with a fee of around £15million being bandied around.

With the interview going out on Sunday, Rojo also apologised to Sporting for his refusal to train the previous week in a bid to push his United move through.

“I was hot-headed and I’m sorry. I’ll be back with the rest of the squad tomorrow,” Rojo added.

“Sporting signed me when I was not at my best and gave me the opportunity to play for a big club in Europe.

“I would like to thank the trust they had in me and I will resume training on Monday.”

It’s thought that Rojo could undergo a medical with United as early as today, with the only potential sticking point being the fine print of Nani’s season-long loan deal back to Sporting.

We can’t help but feel that this is such a lot of fuss over such an incredibly ordinary player.

Still, as far as United are concerned: a signing’s a signing.
