Manchester City 1-0 Manchester United – Premier League – 2nd November 2014

A second-half Sergio Aguero goal gave City the victory in a bad-tempered Manchester derby at the Etihad. The win, which came after United had Chris Smalling sent off, sees the Citizens move to within six points of league leaders Chelsea.

The first-half peppered with fouls and potential flashpoints, with David De Gea making a couple of fine saves to keep the visitors on level terms. However, the expulison of Smalling for two bookable offences on 38 minutes left United with it all to do.

United also saw another defender, Marcos Rojo, subbed off with a shoulder injury and eventually, the goal came for City, with Aguero firing home from a Gale Clichy centre. Jesus Navas then hit the woodwork and while the Red Devils did create some chances after that, Manuel Pellegrini’s side saw out the game to take all three points.

Courtesy of this first win in four games, City keep themselves close enough to league leaders Chelsea while United find themselves in 10th.
