RTE pundits get their own back: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo is not a great player’

Having had to eat a fair portion of humble pie when Ronaldo played out of his socks for Man Utd against Roma in the Champions League quarter final, Messrs Dunphy, Brady and Giles lapped up the Portuguese winger’s poor performance last night:

I agree with a lot of their analysis – a ‘great match-winner but not a great player’. Ronaldo has the potential to be a truly great player but he desperately needs to learn from the selflessness of a team player like Kaka. As Dunphy says, if Kaka is Reality, then Ronaldo is Hype.

Easy to stick the boot in after he’s had a rare poor game as part of a bad team performance.

Exactly – they were waiting to pounce. All a bit churlish really.

I think it is a big waste of time to listen to these guys or consider arguing their opinions.
They are entitled to their opinions, they saw a lot of football but have not learned much about it.
To use their own words, they are not great commentators, they are not even good commentators.
