Transfer Balls: Rounding up the day’s football tittle-tattle so you don’t have to…

Citizens To Seal Sterling Deal

Manchester City’s campaign to lure Raheem Sterling to the Etihad is set to go up a notch according to the Express, with the Citizens readying a new £50million bid for the attacker. Liverpool have already turned down two bids from City for the England man, but with the Mancunian giants now ready to offer the asking price, the Reds may well cash in on their fleet-footed star.

With City eager to inject young British talent into their ageing squad, Sterling looks an ideal purchase. Looks like this one is more than likely going to happen.

Man Utd Bid For Bastian

The Mirror tells us that Louis Van Gaal is about to be reunited with his former Bayern charge Bastian Schweinsteiger. Man Utd are desperate to strengthen their midfield ranks, and with only one year left on Schweinsteiger’s current Bayern Munich contract, the Red Devils are confident of landing the 30-year-old.

Having played under Van Gaal from 2009-2011, the World Cup winner may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League, while his £7.5million price tag is unlikely to put United off.

Chelsea Going For A Song

While Petr Cech finally looks to be moving to Arsenal, former Gunners Alex Song could well be lining out for Chelsea next season. According to the Telegraph, the Cameroon international is wanted by Jose Mourinho to beef up the Blues’s midfield ranks.

Song’s current club, Barcelona, want £5million for the midfielder who enjoyed a decent season on loan at West Ham in 14/15. With Jon Obi Mikel set to leave Stamford Bridge, the 27-year-old Song would provide experienced back-up for Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic for a very reasonable price.

Gunners Would Rather Jack

Staying with the Mirror, they report that Arsenal are willing to offer Jack Wilshere a new £100,000 per week five-year deal in order to see off interest in the England man from Manchester City. The Citizens are eager to add some young English talent to their ranks, and want the 23-year-old Wilshere, along with Raheem Sterling, to star in a new-look City side next season.

Fresh from his two-goal starring role for England against Slovenia, Wilshere looks in the cusp of finally making the most of his ample talents (injuries permitting). Despite the financial muscle of Man City, I can’t see either lifelong Gooner Wilshere wanting to leave or Arsene Wenger sanctioning a deal.

Toffees Hot For Heaton

Everton are pondering a move for Burnley goalkeeper Ton Heaton, according to the Independent. The future of current Toffees’ number one, Tim Howard, remains uncertain with the news that his ex-wife has moved with their children back to the USA. With Howard now 36, Roberto Martinez may also be looking at a long-term replacement, with the 29-year-old Heaton impressing for the Clarets last season.

While Everton number two, Joel Robles, has done okay when called upon, the Merseysiders may well see Heaton as the man to take over between the posts at Goodison. That’s if Howard actually does leave for the States this summer, of course.

The best/worst of the rest:

PSG midfielder Marco Veratti is looking to move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid, Chelsea want Everton defender John Stones while Newcastle are eyeing a move for Ashley Cole.

The owners need to ask themselves do they want to win trophies and/or make the top 4.

To me the common sense decision is get rid of the disgruntled/redundant fringe players (except Raheem) and buy a really really expensive striker.

Brendan can’t afford to fail on both requirements.

Otherwise he uses Balo as first choice striker and hopes…hopes the love gets reciprocated by him. Can’t use Balo as a bench player – he won’t be giving his all, thats just his way – deal with it.
