It’s official. Chelsea have signed Pedro from Barcelona on a four-year deal.

Indeed, Pedro has already come through his first training session at Cobham…

The Spaniard never did join Manchester United, preferring life in London to playing under Van Gaal at Old Trafford. On the official Chelsea website, the club hails their new recruit and can’t resist having a dig at United while they’re at it:

The Spaniard arrives as a highly coveted winger who can also play as a central striker. He is proven at the very highest level and already possesses an impressive medal haul.

The 28-year-old has accumulated three Champions Leagues and five La Liga titles, as well as being a world and European champion on the international stage.

He said: ‘I am very happy to be here. I am very excited to start my adventure at Chelsea and I am here to keep winning titles. Thanks to the club and the supporters for giving me the opportunity to put the blue shirt on.’

Chelsea then review the player’s career. This biography contains this line:

His brilliant performances at club level saw him secure a place in the Spain squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Pedro started both the semi-final and final, and was a key figure in their victory over the Netherlands.

A year later he scored the opening goal in the Champions League final at Wembley as Barςa beat Manchester United 3-1.

Cor blimey, talk about laying it on thick! Is Mourinho writing the Chelsea website news as well as the match reports now?

  1. Spanish Red says:

Just a couple of points. Manchester United withdrew from the signing of Pedro on hearing that he had been tapped up by Mourinho and Fabregas. Secondly, I doubt very, very much that he would prefer life in London to Manchester. Manchester has, yet again, been voted as the best place to live in England. So get your facts correct in future before printing this rubbish.

    • Bill says:

United didn’t withdraw from anything, he just didn’t want to join a club in decline with a despotic manager. Same as Ramos.

      • SG says:

A club in decline that is unbeaten this season (early days I know). A club that Van Gaal vastly improved in the season since Moyes’ disastrous tenure, and a club that is actually making money.

Almost all news outlets reported United pulled the plug on the deal, but you can believe what you want to believe. Until a player actually says he’s signing for the club, don’t believe anything you hear.

    • Bob says:

Best place to live according to the Manchester Evening News. There are a million lists and if you actually ASK anyone, I’m pretty sure they would say they would rather live in London.

    • Bob says:

Plus, you are forgetting he’s rich. London is the best tax haven in the world.

LOL @ Spanish Red. I’ve seen hundreds of similar twitter posts from United fans. Sour grapes!!

i was really when i heard the news of chelsea signing pedro….pedro is really a great player for bacelona….and i hope he will enjoy time at london

  4. Richard Calderon says:

Is this a joke report? You’re citing stats from 2010 and 2011!!!! What about 2015 when he did nothing in the Netherlands (led by LVG) destruction of Spain. The man has been buried on the bench for how long now? Seriously–I like Pedro but he doesn’t get in ManU ‘s team annnnnnd, mark my words, he will be buried on Chelsea’s bench. ‘Cause’ that’s what Jose does–don’t believe me, have a look at many of the top wingers that have come to Chelsea under Jose and are either buried on the bench, sent out on loan or just discarded.
Good luck with this Pedro–I hope that they are at least paying you well.

  5. James Taylor says:

Surely just because a town is voted “best place to live” by some indiscernible source doesn’t mean that everyone would automatically want to live there, least of all Spanish multi-millionaire footballers (probably not the survey’s main demographic).

  6. Si says:

@Spanish Red – as someone who has lived in Manchester for the last 15 years or so (and lives just up the road from Old Trafford), I can confirm first hand that it is nowhere close to being the best place to live in England. If we cannot stand the weather and crap shops / nightlife etc. here, I suspect that a Spaniard might not see the appeal of our habitually bleak city.

  7. Bruno says:

Who cares about Pedro? He was a good player playing with the best players in the world and for the best team in the world. Even I can play well alongside Messi, Xavi and Iniesta.

United have Memphis, Januzaj, Mata and Rooney. All better than Pedro. United don’t need Pedro. They need Lewandowski or Muller and Hummels or Chiellini.
I don’t think Chelsea need Pedro too.

    So… fuck this signing.
