Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly finally reached the end of his tether with misfiring striker Dimitar Berbatov, and is prepared to make a huge loss on the £30 million Bulgarian in a bid to offload him in the summer.

The languid forward has struggled to make any sort of consistent impact during his 18-month stay at Old Trafford, and his no-show against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday may prove to be the final nail in the coffin of his United career – with Sir Alex now convinced that the 29-year-old isn’t up to leading the line in the absence of Wayne Rooney.

United have been linked with summer moves for a clutch of world class strikers (Karim Benzema/David Villa/Sergio Aguero etc.), but they will find themselves extremely lucky to even recoup half of the exorbitant sum they paid Tottenham Hotspur for Berbatov a-year-and-a-half ago to put toward any prospective replacement.

United will be lucky to get anything back BerbaFLOP – Fergie should ask Spurs for his money back!

Maybe Spurs can buy him back in a cut price deal, to see if they can get him back to top form.

Was he really that good at Spurs? Or did the lack of quality around him make him seem a better player than he was?

  2. Tinez says:

If he was actually made to look good by the players around him at Spurs, then the team at Man United should make him look like a footballing God.

oh my god, this is absolute nonsense. united cant afford any of those players listed at the end in the first place until glazer sells, and berbatov 9 times out of 10 will be back around next season unless they can actually buy someone better. he doesnt score as often but his assist tally is huge. last year he was 2nd in the league in assists right behind van persie and TIED with fabregas. he’s just having a bad year, which 6 assists before the end of the year isnt that bad really, and not being played in that many games this year could be due to this poor form. CHRIS WRIGHT, LAY OFF BERBATOV. (my new chant)

  6. Gilly says:

Berba should go, I am not a berba basher or anything but he is underperforming and should be sold to the to whoever wants him enough to gamble on his form and be willing to buy for a decent price at around £15 million.

Here is how it should be.

Berbatov out for any offer at around the £15 million mark.

Benzema in for a bid at around the £25 million mark.

Remember the ronaldo cash is still untouched.

  7. zano says:

The Ronaldo cash went straight into the blackhole that is the ‘Glazer built’ financial blackhole. Man U needed to sell Ronaldo regardless of if he wanted to go.

Question is: Will they need to sell Rooney this summer?!

to be honest, it may sound a bit drastic for villa but it would be a perfect buy for them as they are a passing team and have a lot of quickness around their squad. berbatov prefers quick play and short passes…. villa need a goal scorer, and although he hasnt scored many goals… in the right team, he will score plenty.
