After months of enquiries flooding in from most of Europe’s major clubs, Benfica have finally named their asking price for highly-rated defender David Luiz.
The Portuguese side have told all interested parties that they will need to stump up £25 million to prise the 6’1″ centre-back from the Estadio da Luz.
Luiz has seen his value inflated by Benfica as they seek a bumper fee to cash in on the flock of high-profile suitors including Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan amongst others.
The 22-year-old Brazilian has struck up an impressive defensive partnership with his compatriot Luisao in the Portuguese Liga this season, and is widely expected to earn his first full international caps at this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

Nice pic but I doubt he’s going to get his debut at the World Cup as you state. Brazil might not be what they used to be but they’re not going to bleed new Defenders at International Level during the WC ffs!
Doubt he’ll get work permit clearance as he’s a bit old to qualify for a Special Talent visa.

I doubt that the player is worth that much, he is a good defender but the price tag is too high

Chelsea and City won’t be put off by price and United could raise the cash to negotiate a £20 million fee so a big money deal is still realistic enough but I would not be at all surprised if he was still at Benfica next year/season.
United should sell
Wes Brown for an offer of £10 million
John O’shea for an offer of £10 million
Ritchie da laet for an offer of £10 million
David luis in for £20 million
Simon kjaer in for £20 million
Summer budget of £30 million easily pays of the excess of £10 million.

Who in their right mind is going to cough up £30 million for Brown, O’Shea and De Laet??! They’s be lucky to get £10 million for all 3! That has got to be one of the most ridiculous posts I’ve ever seen on here!
