Summer luring, had me a blast. Here’s the round up…

Rumour No. 1: Manchester City are ready to table a £50 million bid for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.

According to The Guardian, City manager Roberto Mancini has ‘laid down a marker’ for another summer of huge spending by openly discussing the acquisition of the free-scoring Spaniard.

The actual quotes from Mancini are somewhere along the fairly tame ‘Torres is a great player and anybody in their right mind would want him in their team’ line, but that doesn’t stop the paper speculating that City will offer ‘Nando’ a £200,000-a-week contract in the hopes of luring him to Eastlands in the summer.

Rumour No. 2: Speaking of luring (everybody’s at it), Juventus are hoping to tempt Arsenal pair Bacary Sagna and Robin Van Persie to the Stadio Olimpico during the close season.

Apparently, the Bianconeri will move for Sagna should the Gunners succeed in procuring Dutch full-back Gregory Van Der Wiel from Ajax, and will use either Felipe Melo (who is a long-term Arsenal target) or ‘keeper Gigi Buffon as ballast in a swap deal for RVP.

The Best of the Rest: Arsenal are also said to have ‘joined the race’ for Everton starlet Jack Rodwell – despite being linked with the young English midfielder every month for the last year – and are hoping to lure him to The Emirates with a lifetime supply of Kinder Eggs and Mini-Milks (maybe).

Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano has hinted that Manchester United would be his first choice destination should he decide to leave Seville in the summer.

Liverpool are being linked with a £2.5 million move for Wolves’ Welsh goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

Blackburn Rovers are considering moving for a pair of half-decent strikers, namely Panathinaikos’ Djibril Cisse (€8 million) and Lech Poznan’s Robert Lewandowski (€6 million).

West Brom are to try and tempt Stoke outcast Tuncay Sanli to the Hawthorns, but they will face stiff competition from Fenerbache.

Birmingham City are set to go all out with a razzle-dazzle ‘Hollywood’ move for Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd.
