Cause and effect…

1. Liverpool beat Chelsea next Sunday (a draw might be enough)

2. Man Utd win a 19th title, thereby overtaking Liverpool’s tally (18)

If Liverpool FC is to have any chance of playing in next season’s Champions League, a victory over Chelsea next Sunday is essential. However, there is a nasty, painful catch for Kopites – the by-product of a win over the current league leaders would almost certainly be a 19th domestic crown for Man Utd.

Some Liverpool fans would rather miss out on Europe if it meant denying United the title. That’s perverse to the outsider but when you understand the poisonous rivalry between the two clubs, it’s hardly surprising.

Of course there is no suggestion – except by fans on forums – that Liverpool won’t give its all against Chelsea, or even play a weakened team, but is the possibility of Champions League football enough to offset the pain of United fans unveiling a massive “We’ve won 19!” banner next season?

Liverpool fans, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this dilemma…

I’d like to see Rafa take a page out of Mick McCarthy’s manual and rest 10 of the starting 11.

  4. RobLfc says:

I cant see us getting fourth place so to be honest i wouldnt care if we lost to chelsea just wipe that smile off old whisky nose and shreks face YMWA

  5. Karlos says:

I like many other Liverpool fans would hate the fact that the scum would win their 19th championship, but I do feel that if we dont qualify for C/L the reality of that would be much worse. I for one hope Sunderland will do us & Chelsea a big favour and beat those Manc mo fo’s.

  6. james says:

its not that do pooo fans want to beat the chavs. does it matter what the poo’s think. the chavs will be beat the poo’s.
what are the chances 3-0 chavs.

  7. mizman says:

if any liverpool fans say that they will do “anything” to stop man nited winning the title, it justs proves how much of a bigger club man united are and that liverpool judge their own season around man united’s success and not their own achievments.

  8. Bob says:

I’m far more concerned about my own club winning than a rival losing. When you’re wanting your own team to lose just so it will cost your rivals something, you’ve become an Evertonian.

If we’re being honest #19 has been on it’s way for a while, we’ve all known it’s going to come, we’ll just have to bide our time and retake the crown in the near future. We had the 70s and 80s, United have had the 90s and 00s.

  9. Jared says:

I d prefer we lfc lose 2 cfc thn let man u get a 19th title. We gv it 2 cfc.

  10. prilo says:

Hi I am your fans.I love United alot.In this season its not easy to get forth consective title. This year Wayne Rooney is very good.Reply me

  11. Dan says:

I would be happy if we fielded our youth team against Chelsea, that would rive Fergie mad, I do not want United taking title 19 so whatever must happen to prevent this so be it.

  12. Philando Torres says:

Spurs and City play each other, Villa are liable to slip up at any given moment and we play an atrocious Hull side last game of the season.

I still don’t want us to beat Chelsea though. Such is the irrational hatred that exists between the two clubs. If United won the title, it really would be the turd on the cake that is this awful season.

  13. tindase says:

it will be much worse for the kop if they roll over for chelski but then Wigan fail to play along the same script on the last day and united still get 19.

  14. chris says:

To be honest we have the advantage of playing on the sunday, a day after our closest rivals play, so i think the players will act instinctively to how the scores have gone on the saturday…. if none of our close rivals win then its all gunns blazing 110% against chelsea otherwise if say spurs and man city win then that extra bit of passion will naturaly be missing even though they’ed still give 100%…… Rolling over is never an option, even if it means the mancs getting 19….Big deal! …. we have 5 european cups anyway. It’s up to us to get 19 and 20 in the next couple of years

  15. rooney's right foot says:

If you scouse Bastards are bleating that you’d rather the title go to a bunch of fucking chav’s like Chelski than The Mighty REDS, then it just proves your team haven’t got the SPINE to get of their arses & prove to the rest of the country that they can once again be a force to be reckoned with, and you sad twats are living on past glorys.

    I feel sorry for you…..

  16. spectator says:

it’s all academic, we’ll never beat them anyway. at least not this season. we should rest everyone. except maxi as he can’t play in europa anyway.

  17. Uious says:

Every Liverpool supporter that I know refuse to allow United to get ahead of them in titles

They don’t want to lose but they REALLY don’t want United to get ahead of them in total prestige

    They want to lose

  18. Jim says:

As a Liverpool supporter it will be painful to watch United win 19 BUT they will win 19 eventually. Whether it next year, three years or fifty years.

It is Chelsea’s problem, and theirs alone, if they cannot get past us, like United did twice, to win the trophy. Moreover the league would be farcical if teams rolled over for favourite teams/manangers etc.

No, lets go out to win it as ever and give ourselves every opportunity of getting in the Champs league so we can push on and challenge properly next season. THAT is our concern.

    YNWA

  19. Lou says:

Ha, I pity you lot sometimes I really do.

If you really wanted to stop us overtaking you’re precious record that you’ve been holding onto for the past 20 years then why don’t you’s actuallly try building a team capable of doing something about it yourselves rather than relying on an end of season oppurtunity to have a say in a title race you’re nowhere near being involved in.

To say you’re willing to give up on Champions League football next season just to get one over on us is proof if proof be needed of how petty you lot are on Merseyside. In that case, hope you enjoy shooting yourselves in the foot. If you’re not competing in the Champions league next season then I hope you’re bracing yourselves for another year of dissapointment because you certainly won’t be winning anything else. Especially with players leaving, your manager probably leaving.

So yeah, even if you do get what you want on Sunday, we’re going to overtake you shower eventually. You have to ask yourselves is it really worth all that just to do one over on your rivals? If so you are alot sadder than I gave you lot credit for.

    Yeah, good luck with that.

  20. gaurav.. says:

fuck MANU..al dey need is to focus on winning…if MANU gt record 19th title dis season,we’l try to equalize it next season,,its nt somethng that cant be regained,,,winning is a habit,,nd it wud be the best thing to start it from chelsea,,,

  21. Drew Vader says:

I think Pool will play with the same commitment they have done all season, no chance will they roll over. However, I still see chelski winning 2-0. If Pool had torres then maybe, but N’gog? No chance

And besides, Sunderland away isn’t going to be easy.

  22. rooney's right foot says:

Didier Drogba: “Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard Made A Big Mistake Against Chelsea”

    YA THINK???

Wonder why he doesn’t put a foot wrong most of the season & when he know’s how the result will affect Manchester United he “Makes a mistake….??”

GUTLESS PERFORMANCE THAT WE ALL KNEW WAS COMING.

And they then had the cheek to do a LAP OF “HONOUR”????

Spineless, over-paid, underworked, under-acheiving, prima donnas.

BREAK THEM UP & START AGAIN, MR LIVERPOOL MANAGER!! (WHOMEVER YOU WILL BE NEXT SEASON…..)

It’ll be nice to have a decent Liverpool team to face again, instead of this shower….

C’MON SCOUSERS, SHOW US ALL WHAT YOU’RE MADE OF!!!

GET BACK TO THE GLORY DAYS OF BOB PAISLEY & SHANKLY – IT’S BEEN TOO LONG FOR YOU TO DO SOMWTHING IN YOUR DOMESTIC LEAGUE, YOU’RE NOT EVEN ONE OF THE “BIG 4” THIS SEASON!!!

    HELLOOOO????

    ANY ALARM BELLS RINGING????

    GET IT TOGETHER PEOPLE!!!

THE MANCS WILL BE WAITING NEXT SEASON!!!

    GOOD LUCK….
