However, Young’s second, just six minutes later, was an absolute stunner, with the wideman firing home a magnificent long-range free-kick.

Even Jose Mourinho looked surprised by the cracking effort, with the boss appearing to mouth the words “holy sh*t” after seeing Young pick out the top corner.

The Red Devils found themselves 3-0 up just after the half-hour mark, with Anthony Martial producing a suitably classy finish.

Despite the scoreline, the Hornets produced some decent football themselves and after the break, they did their best to stage a comeback, with Troy Deeney netting from the penalty spot on 77 minutes.

In-form midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure then gave the home fans hope courtesy of a close-range finish.

However, United would seal the deal at the death with yet another magnificent goal, this time with Jesse Lingard firing home after a superb solo dribble from inside his own half.

The 4-2 victory sees United close to within five points of league leaders Manchester City, who play on Wednesday night.

As for Marco Silva and co, they stay eighth, four points off a top four spot.
