Manchester United plarped out a toothless 0-0 draw against Southampton in the Saturday evening fixture that saw Jose Mourinho’s side fall to third in the table, some 12 points behind leaders Man City having played a game more than their rivals.

Things got off to a bad start for the home side at Old Trafford when Romelu Lukaku was stretchered off the pitch within the first 15 minutes after colliding skulls with Saints defender Wesley Hoedt.

The Belgian hit the deck hard and remained motionless for several minutes before eventually being given oxygen and hoisted from the field, to be replaced by Marcus Rashford.

Rumours then quickly circulated on social media that Lukaku had been taken to hospital as a precaution, but it would appear that the United striker was actually given treatment at the stadium, at least according to a man who was there…

So perhaps not quite as serious as first imagined though whether or not Lukaku will be ruled out of Monday’s game against Everton.

If so, that’s Mourinho’s excuse sorted nice and early.
