Manchester United booked their place in this season’s FA Cup final after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Tottenham at Wembley.

Spurs, looking to finally get their hands on some silverware under Mauricio Pochettino, started strongly and took a deserved lead after just 11 minutes, with Dele Alli scoring from close-range after a delightful cross from Christian Eriksen.

The north Londoners, playing on their temporary home ground, pushed for a second but United stood firm and weathered the storm.

On 24 minutes, the Red Devils leveled the scores, with Alexis Sanchez producing a magnificent header from a Paul Pogba cross.

That goal was Sanchez’s eighth at Wembley for club and country as the Chilean produced a fine display against his old rivals.

Just before the break, Spurs almost took the lead again, only for Eric Dier to see his deflected effort come back of the post.

After the break, Jose Mourinho’s side started to impose themselves on the game and they eventually look the lead just after the hour-mark, with Ander Herrera firing home from a Romelu Lukaku pass, after yet more good work from Sanchez.

That goal took the wind out of Tottenham’s sails, and would ultimately seal the win for United, who rack up their third major final in two seasons under Mourinho.

While the Red Devils can look forward to a return to Wembley on May 19th, when they’ll face either Chelsea or Southampton, Spurs once again end the season empty-handed, after their eighth consecutive FA Cup semi-final defeat.

Indeed, it’s now 10 years since the north Londoners won a trophy, surely a matter of concern for fans of a team and manager so widely praised?
