It looks like Wayne Rooney will be stinking up the Premier League joint no longer after news broke that the Everton man has agreed a deal “in principle” to join DC United this summer.

Earlier in the week, we learned that Rooney’s camp had held “serious talks” with DC, which in turn have lead to a deal being struck “in principle” between the two parties.

A £12.5million fee is being mooted, with Everton keen to nudge the vastly overpaid 32-year-old off their wage bill at the nearest suitable convenience.

However, it may not be that simple for the Toffees. Indeed, it would appear there’s a likely scenario wherein three different clubs will be paying Rooney’s exorbitant wages next season.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United are still subsidising his wages to the tune of £10million-a-year despite him leaving Old Trafford in the summer of 2017, with Everton also likely to have to pitch in too if they want DC to take the plunge.

The Americans are willing to offer £3million-a-year and are governed by a strict wage cap system in MLS.

[Rooney] is on closer to £15million-a-year, meaning between them DC United, Manchester United and Everton must stump up the cash to make the deal viable.

Never has one man so clearly past his prime continued to command such ludicrously disproportionate earning power.

We knew it was hefty, but that last Manchester United contract renewal must have been an absolute behemoth to still be having this kind of knock-on effect.

15m per year to Rooney. It’s even crazier than what those fuckers earn in China. He has been absolutely anonymous since 2011 and I think Fergie would have sold him in 2013.
