Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly been discharged from hospital less than a month after the Manchester United stalwart underwent emergency surgery on a brain haemorrhage.

According to a source quoted by The Sun, Ferguson will now continue his convalescence at home and is hoping to be back in his seat in the Old Trafford directors’ box by the start of the new season.

Fergie is ‘back on his feet’ and that the prognosis for his health is ‘extremely promising’.

The 76-year-old had been placed in an induced coma but appears to have shaken off his grave illness with characteristic Govan grit.

Indeed, after coming round in hospital, Ferguson’s first words were apparently to ask son Darren how Doncaster Rovers had got on at the weekend.

The bad news? They lost 1-0 to Wigan.
