Paul Scholes – I Would Probably Have Said Yes To England Comeback

Paul Scholes has admitted he would have returned to the England team, but only if he had been given more time to consider Fabio Capello’s offer.

“It’s a big decision and I wasn’t really given enough time to think about it, so I decided not to take up the offer,” the Ginger Ninja told the Oldham Evening Chronicle.

“If they’d asked me earlier I probably would have accepted.

“There are players in the squad who have spent nearly two years flying all around the world helping England qualify for the World Cup, whereas I haven’t been involved for a long time.

“It wasn’t a case of wanting to go on holiday, it was the fact that I got the call so close to the tournament, and also I didn’t want to take the place of someone who helped get England to South Africa.

“The idea just didn’t sit comfortably with me.”

I would have loved to see Scholes on the bench in South Africa – he’s still absolute class. Massive shame Capello didn’t call him earlier.

    – flying all around the world Paul? It was only a European qualifying round? Goes to show short and ginger equals stupid…oh and throw in from the north too!

    Overrated and overhyped beyond belief!

Perhaps you guys are anti-United or whatever, but I firmly believe Scholes has been playing outstanding both in 08-09 and 09-10. It’s like he’s entered into a 2nd youth. However, I find this comment he made a bit stupid seeing he’s like a month too late. If he said this before the provisional squad was announced, he may’ve been in with a shout. Although I remember reading an article sometime in 08 I think where he made it clear he wouldn’t be coming back to the national side.

    wow the desperation

First carragher, then scholey… Neville next? Becks in goal?
