World Cup? First I’ve heard. Here’s the round up…

“I’m caught in a trap, I can’t walk out…”

Rumour No. 1: Manchester United centre-back Nemanja Vidic‘s future at Old Trafford has been plunged into fresh doubt after his agent, Paolo Fabbri, refused to confirm that the Serbian defender will be at the club next season.

Fabbri apparently told reporters;

“At the moment there is no news. Nemanja has obviously left for the World Cup with Serbia and is concentrating on that. We are waiting for information. We are waiting for Nemanja to tell us what we he wants to do, so at the moment we are waiting as it is up to him.

[Vidic] is concentrating on something else, so I guess it won’t be until after the World Cup that he makes a decision on his future. We have requested some time from Manchester United to think about things, and Nemanja does not want to look at things.”

Sounds fairly ominous.

Those were the days…

Rumour No. 2: After being appointed as Jose Mourinho‘s successor at the Inter Milan helm yesterday, it would seem that Rafa Benitez is moving quickly to identify his summer transfer targets.

That is, of course, if the daily newspapers are to be believed – which they usually are not.

Anywho, after apparently trying and failing to bring him to Liverpool last season, Benitez (backed by millionaire Inter owner Massimo Moratti) will attempt to pull off a sensational £35 million swoop for Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, whom he hopes to team up with international teammate Javier Mascherano at the Guiseppe Meazza.

The Best of the Rest: Manchester United have been linked with a move for Juventus’ attacking midfielder Diego who, I think it’s fairly safe to say, didn’t enjoy the smoothest of debut season’s in Serie A last term.

Manchester City will have to compete against Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Juventus if they wish to sign £30-million-rated Valencia winger David Silva.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has openly admitted that he ‘rates’ Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole, Everton winger Steven Pienaar and Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra in an interview – make of that what you will.

Fulham have told Arsenal they will have to stump up £3 million if they want to sign 37-year-old  ‘keeper Mark Schwarzer.

Chelsea will move to replace recently-released German veteran Michael Ballack with £12-million-rated Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland.

However, it is also thought that Chelsea may re-enter the race to sign James Milner from Aston Villa as a replacement for Ballack.

Everton have rejected an improved £7 million bid from West Ham for Yakubu, as the Toffees are holding out for a fee closer to the £11.25 million they payed Middlesbrough for the Nigerian striker three years ago.

Tottenham are considering making a £10 million offer for West Ham target man Carlton Cole.

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce is interested in signing Guinea midfielder Kevin Constant from French outfit Chateauroux.

Dmitri Seluk, the agent on Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure, has told the Catalan club that their €35 million valuation of his client is scuppering his chances of a move to the Premier League.

Financially troubled Hull City have put every single member of their playing staff up for sale in a bid to slash their wage bill.
