Manchester United are poised to open talks with Wayne Rooney over a bumper new contract that is reported to be worth anywhere between £35 – £36.4 million, depending on which newspaper you choose to peruse.
Rooney (who’s current £90,000-a-week deal expires in July of 2012) is currently on holiday (in Miami, at a guess), but will meet United’s chief exec David Gill upon his return to thrash out a new ‘mega’ contract – that will see him become the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
The new deal will put Rooney on a par (earnings-wise) with England colleagues John Terry and Frank Lampard, who both take home wages in excess of the £100,000-a-week barrier.
Gits.
