Man Utd’s kids – plus a couple of old boys, namely Ryan Giggs and Edwin van der Sar – thumped the MLS All Stars in Houston yesterday. It was the first time the Yanks’ Dream Team had lost to an English club – and boy did they lose. So much for Alexi Lalas’s pre-match prediction that the Premier League side would struggle.

United went 1-0 up after just 24 seconds, when Federico Macheda pounced on a weak backpass. Macheda doubled the lead with a firm header, before three excellent goals by Darron Gibson, Tom Cleverley and new signing Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez made it five. The home team’s consolation goals came from Brian Ching and Dwayne De Rosario.

Cleverley’s goal in particular was superb – he looks a terrific prospect. And I’ll be very interested to see how much game time Chicharito sees. He’s clearly a sharp shooter – he took his goal very coolly – and may turn out to be a very shrewd signing indeed; especially because United picked him up before the World Cup. United’s popularity in Mexico just went through the roof.

Tom Cleverley’s goal was taken superbly. Hope to see him play for United a good few times this year. Chicharito looked good when he came on too, adds another dimension to United’s attack. Hopefully they can do it against the top teams, a goal against the MLS doesnt mean they will!

cant beleive cleverleys goal is getting the most praise. Gibsons FK is one of the best ive seen for ages. Very Beckham-esgue. In fact a replica of his tecnique. i know it mite sound premature after one good FK but he looks very promising with a dead ball. u can tell a lucky lash from great tekkers. and that was great tekkers

I think they almost should not have bothered this year, the MLS All Stars were always going to struggle, with 2 of their teams having played champions league last night and one team playing that same day they had 4 players only fly in that morning & had never played or trained together and it really showed.

Actually, they lost on penalties to Everton last year.

typical scottish knob, no composure in front of goal close your eyes just drill it.

btw how old is gibson? already got a clear bald spot.

  7. Adam says:

As Jason has pointed out, Everton beat them last year also with some kids on show, though much less convincingly.
