Fergie has been busy throwing down a psychological gauntlet to his current crop of players this week by claiming they are the best squad he’s ever had in his time at the club.
That means he rates them higher than the 1994 Double winners featuring players like Steve Bruce and Eric Cantona and better than the 1999 treble winners who, with Beckham, Keane, Scholes and Giggs, had one of the best midfields in the club’s history.
You can click here to vote for the best ever Man United squad at our sister site www.manunitedpies.tv – but we’ve taken a different approach by putting together Fergie’s best ever team made up from the three great sides he’s assembled.
Click through for a look at United’s best ever Premier League XI and let us know if you agree or disagree

Goalkeeper: Peter Schmeichel
Who else but the Great Dane that United have never really been able to replace?
Right back: Gary Neville
Good old Mr. Dependable (unless he’s injured for seven months) also gets extra United kudos for his supposed hate of Scousers
Left back: Dennis Irwin
Always consistent and could bend a free-kick better than Beckham
Centre back: Steve Bruce
Would put his body in the way of anything, as his mangled face suggests, and also provided a goal threat from the back
Centre back: Jaap Stam
Built like a brick shithouse and one of the few players that even Fergie admits to making a mistake with when he offloaded him to Lazio
Right wing: Cristiano Ronaldo
A tough call between him and Beckham but Ronaldo has more pace, trickery and goals in his mirrored locker
Centre midfield: Roy Keane
United’s driving force and Fergie’s reincarnation on the pitch – he set the mould for the team’s unbreakable will to win
Centre midfield: Paul Scholes
The ginger ninja should never be underestimated as the player that makes United tick, he can do everything…except tackle
Left wing: Ryan Giggs
The only player that’s featured in all three of United’s greatest teams and he’s just signed a new contract that could see him become the club’s most capped player
Forward: Eric Cantona
The club’s best ever transfer arrived for £1m from Leeds and provided the catalyst that created a dynasty, although a certain Crystal Palace supporter may disagree
Forward: Wayne Rooney
It’s still early days for Wazza but if can keep fit and out of controversy he could become the best ever.
Is this the best Man United Premier League side ever?

    Vidic definitely deserves a place

  2. Peter says:

Mark Hughes (Sparky), van nistelrooy, beckham, kanchelskis, yorke and andy cole could be on the bench with vidic.

  3. Anonymous says:

rooney is a disgraceful inclusion. he has achieved nothing yet. look at the other strikers like andy cole, how many leagues and cups did he win?? Stop hyping rooney and get over it

    ROOONEY?!?!?!?!?!?!?
What happened top Cole and Yorke?!I cannot believe this!the squad was allright till the final striker was named…
    Load of utter bull-crap.

  7. Joe says:

Come on, even the most nationalistic United fan will tell you the Donkey was better than the Ogre will ever be.

  8. Blade says:

Dude whats wrong with you, first you include rooney in the best number 10 thingy now on here, rooney aint all that deal with it. i like this site and that and im a regular user but the biasness is starting to piss me off now!!!

  9. Chris says:

Ruud van Nistelrooy is far better than Wayne Rooney will ever be.

  10. Raggahislop says:

“ooh aah Cantona !”, say “ooh aah Cantona !” !!!
    {:-#])
you were right not to include Lee Sharpe and Jesper Blomqvist, but Fabulous Fab should have made it (remember 2000-2001, he got bigger than the club, and that’s why Fergie forced him out)
as well as a couple of 1968 guys (they won the champions’ league, didn’t they ???)
this team is a 90’s all-stars + Ronaldo&Rooney, but certainly not the greatest ever MU team.
Now lay low if you don’t want Ruud to bash the shit out of you !

i think beckham gets a very hard time sometimes. granted it’s a very tough midfield to get into.

  12. Coleen says:

There’s more horse lovers here than at a ketamine convention – Ruud scored goals but was one dimensional – Rooney deserves to be there on potential as he’s a better player and time will prove it!
