Paul Scholes in trouble with gay rights group
Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is in hot water with gay rights group OutRage! after an alleged homophobic insult during the match against Benfica last night. Scholes appeared to call Petit a ‘f***ing poof’ after being booked for a tackle on the Portuguese international.
Peter Tatchell, of OutRage!, said: "We urge Paul to apologise and to express his opposition to homophobia. No player, referee or fan should have to endure abuse about their race or sexuality." Scholes is unlikely to face any official sanctions unless the incident is reported by the match referee. [Via ITV]
