This was a surprisingly lacklustre derby, with City seemingly resigned to defeat once C-Ron had walloped in a free-kick past Shay Given in the 18th minute. Carlos Tevez, who says he wants to leave Old Trafford, applied the gloss with a precise strike from 20 yards out. Point made by the popular Argentine, who seems to have fallen out with Sir Alex Ferguson. And we all know what happens when you fall out with Fergie.
So United will defend their title, I have no doubt. Fair play to the Scousers for pushing their north-west rivals all the way, but in the end United have proved themselves to be the best team in England, Europe and the world.
