Fergie reveals real reason why he loves the Champions League
“The Wednesday night atmosphere when you, maybe, go to Madrid and Barcelona. You can smell the cigars and there’s perfume wafting down from the stands. It’s wonderful, it’s different. I love it.
“You go to Milan and everyone’s so stylish. Every woman who passes you by is Miss World. The whole atmosphere at these places is unreal.”
Man Utd’s gaffer waxes surprisingly lyrical about the exotic appeal of the Champions League. Cigar smoke mixed with perfume? Evocative indeed - I can’t imagine Gary Megson or Phil Brown being so poetic.
