‘I’m Not The First To Swear On TV And I Won’t Be The Last’ – Wayne Rooney Loses Appeal

The FA have announced this morning that they have stuck to their guns and decided to uphold their ‘obscene language’ charge against Wayne Rooney despite his appeal, meaning that the Manchester United striker will have to serve a two-match ban (thus missing the FA Cup semi-final derby with Man City) after all.

It is thought that Rooney accepted the charge but appealed against the ban, citing provocation from the West Ham fans behind the goal and the actions of the cameraman – who United’s legal representatives claimed was ‘looking for his money shot’ by encroaching onto the pitch – as a defense for dropping the F-Bomb on television at Upton Park on Saturday.

Rooney has since issued the following statement:

“I am gutted to miss two matches, one of which is an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. I am not the first player to have sworn on TV and I won’t be the last.

“Unlike others who have been caught swearing on camera, I apologised immediately. And yet I am the only person banned for swearing. That doesn’t seem right.

“Whatever, I have to accept that what’s happened has happened and move on from here. That is what I intend to do.”

Perhaps Rooney should have just blind-side elbowed the cameraman in the temple as he ran past him to celebrate – that doesn’t seem to carry much of a charge these days.

The “Everybody else does it” excuse doesn’t work with your parents when you’re 12 and it won’t work now either.

  2. Jim says:

@Spark, it is a bit different if it is the same parents for all, that is what the FA is, so if they have not till now, he sure better start being consistent.

It may just well be the FA proving that they are not biased.

I’ve been to U.K 10 years ago and children then were already swearing obscenities . I’m sure it has gone worst by now. So why all the farce? Even, the movies from Hollywood have swearing!! Freakin’ grow up people, stop being hypocrites you FA!! Bloody communists!!

    haha.. fuK FA

  6. Chris also says:

He still doesn’t seem to realise that the difference is his yelling f#@k directly into the camera and as a cosequence directly ay the viewing public. I’m curious – does anyone remember other players swearing right into the camera? I can’t think of any off the top of my head but surely it’s happened before…

Punished because he’s Rooney. Plain and simple.

    (Sigh)

Poor Rooney. So you “apologize” but go on to blame the FA, the camera man, the fans, everyone else who swears, right? Sounds like my 15-year old son…when you have to qualify an apology with “…but” then its not really a true apology is it?

I hope the FA will upgraded ther e-mail servers before this weekend. They will be getting a lot of short videos of all the swearing that will go on during the matches.

Is any bookie in the UK placing odds on how many suspensions for swearing will come out of this weekends fixtures ?

    FA are fucking banana’s.

Rooney well in the wrong but 2 match ban is way over the top.

  12. Sheasy says:

have to side with rooney on this, how many players do you see banned for not 1 but 2 matches for cursing….give me a break the FA is rediculous…i guess it doesnt help that DAvid Bernstein the chairman of the FA used to be the chairman of Man City as well…same old city always cheating

  13. Ping Yang says:

Manchester United fans have to understand what he did was fucked up. It is normal to swear on television BUT, HE DID IT DIRECTLY AT THE CAMERA. Players swear when they get yellow cards etc. BUT they don’t do it intentionally to the camera. Rooney looked at the camera and swore. There is a big difference. If Rooney was just swearing with his teammates and was caught on camera, then got banned it would have been harsh. But he turned his fucking head and swore DIRECTLY AT THE CAMERA. People need to understand that. There is a difference.
