Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet has come out in support of his fellow countryman Luis Suarez over the FA’s deision to charge the Liverpool player for alleged remarks made to Patrice Evra.

Not only has Poyet said he believes Suarez (who has reiterated his innocence), but he has gone so far as labelling Evra a ‘cry baby’ over the incident which occurd at Anfield last month.

“I believe Luis Suárez, it’s simple,” said the former Chelsea midfielder.  “I played football for seven years in Spain and was called everything because I was from South America, and I never went out crying like a baby, like Patrice Evra, saying that someone had said something to me.”

“I’m surprised, in a really sad way, that he has been charged,” he continued. “Really sad. I think it’s worse to charge someone because you trust one person when you have no proof.

“I’m really sad about this charge as it’s going to become too easy. I can make a complaint about any opposition manager and if I take it as far as I can he’s going to get charged. Why are we going to take one person’s word over another? It’s too risky.”

Expect a spiky response from Sir Alex Ferguson.

If the FA took someone’s word above someone else’s, then his argument would hold; I highly doubt they did though, did they?!

  2. Michael Knight says:

So Poyet believes Suarez’s version of events even though he knows no more than any of us and based on nothing but the fact he is Uruguayan yet at the same time is sad that the FA have decided to ‘trust’ Evra’s side of the story and has completely forgot to mention that the FA supposedly have evidence to back Evra’s claims and don’t just take sides based on who they think has told the best story.

    What a fucking idiot.

  3. Tom Addison says:

    Well said Michael, well said.

  4. Al says:

Completely agree with everything Michael said, I like Poyet but unfortunately on this occasion he has come across as a complete tool.

  5. McRico says:

Don’t think Poyet has done Suarez any favours here. He has just demonstrated that the only cultural difference between Europe and Uruguay is that they tolerate racist remarks. Thats why Negrito is acceptable there.

If player from country that permits a man to hit a woman, then women official need to take note.

Suarez’s ban should signify that when is comes to Racist Comments, there is no excuses!

  6. German says:

    “Fucking Idiot??” “Complete Fool??”

By your comments you should be accused of racism! How can you call this way to a south american??
See? It´s the same situation as suárez. Perhaps he called Evra “fucking … ” and that crybaby came to disclosing it publicly.
It seems to me that you never played soccer, or stepped on a soccer field. You seem to be a “CRYBABY”! Dedicate yourselves to play cards which is certainly the best sport for you, and leave football to men.

  7. JJ says:

The reason certain words are not racist in Uruguay is because the country does not have a racist history like Europe, America, and Brazil do. There was NO SLAVE TRADE in Uruguay, in fact slaves from Brazil would take refuge there. When you don’t have that history, then words are spoke freely and without underlying meanings. Is calling someone white racist in England?

  8. Bobbie says:

Absolute ignorance. By Poyet’s comments, it’s better to sweep it under the carpet and take racism on the chin because your a man rather than confront it and make a change.

This is probably the reason Spain has such bad racism from fans because they see players getting away with it on the pitch.

  9. Michael Knight says:

    @Germany

Calling someone a fucking idiot isn’t racist you fucking idiot!

  10. swiss mafia says:

    Well put michael,
I have no words for your response German…

  11. German says:

    @Michael

I see that your vocabulary is highly bounded to certain epithets. Before writing stupid things you should go back to school and learn new words.

See ya…Negrito!!! … oh … please do not tell your mom that I called you that way! Pleaseeeeeeeeee!

Don´t tell me you´re an Everton fan!!!! You seem to be one of those losers!!!

  12. Rebekah says:

what JJ says is true. the word negro(black in Spanish)is used in Uruguay all the time among friends colleagues etc. no one gets offended when called negro the same way no one gets offended when called white (blanco). there are not “politically correct” terms such as African-Uruguayans,we dont need them, we are all Uruguayans, some black some white some mix. calling someone by the color of their skin is not being racist (calling a black man a slave is being racist in any case)suarez does not hate the entire race because he called someone negro. its sad and ridiculous that this is even happening. imagine the situation in reverse, someone being offended because he has been called white and pressing charges, imagine how the people would take it and maybe you will see my point.

  13. Brendan says:

    Well said Rebekah!

  14. Mr. Sparkle says:

Suarez isn’t known for his high intelligence, than again Evra is as dumb as a stump.

Is deciding whether Suarez is a racist or Evra is a liar going to make us richer? Going to get our team to win a title this season? No and no. So, in other words it’s probably best to get on with it. Racism in football is not going to disappear any time soon. There are too many idiots in the stands and a prevailing attitude throughout Europe that just doesn’t demand any higher tolerance.

Of course, racism exists in North America as well even if it appears less. You can’t completely eradicate it. Footballing bodies should probably make it more of a priority to stamp it out by fining players or clubs for racist bullying but this is FIFA we are talking about, the most inept corrupt organization next to the United Nations. Nothing is going to change because no one cares enough for it to change.

  15. Mr. Sparkle says:

To add to that, I meant no one (in the position of power) cares enough for it to change. Before I’m kidnapped and placed on the stake to be burned alive.

  16. 54 says:

how is patrice evra also as dumb as a stump? this is a man whose father was a diplomat and he is fluent in 5 – 6 languages.

  17. Tom Jones says:

He has a point. Evra is a crybaby. And a liar.

  18. Redskywalker says:

    Shut up Tom Jones.

    Well put Michael.

Personally, I’d love to smack the jaw off Gus Poyet… what a w****r

  19. Jay says:

@german: You’ve just negated everything you said about using vocabulary. Feel really sorry for you that you act like a child.

  20. Jay says:

@Mr. Sparkle: That’s the thing. This person in power is a dinasaur with ignorant views…….Views on women, homosexuals and race. We are in a new century. A better time of tolarance. Those were the ignorant days…..

  21. takeru says:

rokushin nobot, koi! lets kill the twat fergie and idiot blackie evra!

  22. swiss mafia says:

    @Sai
It is because of people like you that there are so many racism problems in football and the world. No reasoning behind your statements and just shouting out hateful/harmful words.

Take a fucking look at yourself in the mirror and try maturing for a change.

Ps: I will not be held responsible for whatever you decide to do with yourself once you have seen how inconsiderate you are.

  23. Mr. Angry says:

poyet is right! that evra is a twat
