With Burnley riding high in the Premier League after an impressive start to the campaign, the club’s fans have started to entertain thoughts of qualifying for European football for the very first time.

The Clarets are currently dangling up in sixth place (and one point off the top five) with 14 games, leading a local pub have taken the opportunity to up the ante by making a wager with manager Sean Dyche.

The Princess Royal, which is literally just down the street from Turf Moor, have promised to not only allow Dyche free libations for life should he guide his merry band into the Europa League, but to also rename the establishment in his honour.

As shared by Burnley’s official Twitter account, the Princess Royal have placed a sign outside the pub which is addressed to Dyche personally and reads thus:

Sean, get us into [the Europa League] and not only will you drink here for free, we will name this pub ‘The Dyche’.

Whether the pub will also start serving celebratory breaded ham platters and throat lozenges in honour of their victorious gaffer remains to be seen.

Dyche might be the best manager in the EPL. Imagine what he could do with Burnley if the team hadn’t needed to sell off key components (Ings and Keane ect.) over the past couple of years?

Historically Burnley have always been a selling club. They are essentially a town team (and a fairly small town at that) and as far back as the early 1970s (when I lived in the town for a while) they have been unearthing diamonds such as Martin Dobson, Ralph Coates, Dave Thomas and Leighton James and selling them to larger clubs for substantial fees which have kept the books balanced and the club functioning. I can’t ever see much changing in that respect to be honest.

Why wouldn’t it change? Another year or two in the EPL, even as a mid table team, they’re gonna be rolling in that TV money. They keep running the team as is in this new EPL they will never have to sell a player just to fit the bills ever again.
