Kevin_francis Back in the days when Peter Crouch was still in short normal-sized trousers, Kevin Francis was English football’s token giant. The 6ft 7in striker made his name at Stockport County, having moved to Edgeley Park from Derby in 1991. He scored an impressive 117 goals in 202 games for County before being drafted into Barry Fry‘s mammoth Birmingham City squad for £800,000 in 1995.

Francis never quite repeated the success of his Stockport days at St Andrews. He eventually left in 1998 to trawl around the lower divisions, stopping only to accept an international call-up to the St Kitts and Nevis squad. Big Kev hung up his sizeable boots in 2001, but was voted Stockport’s all time Cult Hero in a BBC poll in 1994. [Rob Parker]
