Stat Boffins Opta Deconstruct Andres Iniesta’s 2010 World Cup Winning Goal (Video)
By Alan Duffy
Brought to us by the maths website Numberphile.com, this is a rather interesting look at how the stats geeks at Opta look, in minute detail, at the sport we are all obsessed with.
The video focuses on Andrés Iniesta, he of the ghostly pallor and quick feet, and his match-winning goal for Spain against the Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup final.
I must declare a particular interest in this data-filled video, as I myself am one of those Opta stats geeks. However, fortunately for the viewer, my big Irish head and penchant for needless swearing was kept well away from this video.
Enjoy the stat-gasm!
