Two Young Footballers Died This Weekend
By Ollie Irish
Away from the glare of the Premier League spotlight, it’s been a pretty tragic week in football. Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander passed away last week, now two players have died after on-pitch incidents this weekend.
Firstly, on Saturday Nigerian forward Endurance Idahor collapsed during a league match in Sudan between Al-Marreekh and Al-Amal. The 23-year-old striker died on the way to hospital, but having seen the video of the incident, I think it’s fairly clear that he died on the pitch and couldn’t be revived.

Secondly, on Sunday, futsal player Robson Costa, also 23, died after he made a sliding tackle and a large splinter from the indoor pitch’s wooden floor punctured his thigh. Unlike Idahor, Costa survived the trip to hospital but surgery couldn’t save him, and he passed away on Sunday night, due to internal haemorrhaging.
Just terrible. RIP both.
