Beware of The Drog
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has seen off competition from Inter’s Samuel Eto’o (who was vying for a record-breaking fourth win) and team mate Michael Essien to become named as the 2009 Glo-CAF African Footballer of the Year. The Ivorian has now received the honour twice, after first lifting the coveted award in 2006.
Essien, Eto’o and Fulham’s John Pantsil were all named in an African XI team chosen by the Glo-CAF panel.
Other awards on the night went to AC Milan’s Dominic Adiyiah (Young Player of the Year) and Ghana U20’s Sellas Tetteh (Coach of the Year).
Algeria took home the Team of the Year award after The Desert Foxes managed to pip rivals Egypt to World Cup qualification.
