Scottish outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle have dropped out of the Intertoto Cup because the first round of fixtures clash with an Elton John concert at their stadium. Any far-flung Eastern European side turning up at the Caledonian Stadium on 15 July will find themselves Crocodile Rock-ing rather than playing half-pace football and wishing they were lying on a beach somewhere.
Caley’s director of football Graeme Bennett said: “We’re withdrawing our interest in the Intertoto Cup. The cup dates clash with an Elton John concert at the stadium and that would have been a big issue. We were also left hanging on so late last year to find if we were in the Intertoto that we don’t want the same hassle.” [Via Daily Record, Rob Parker]
