evra_patrice_mufc_profile_2006.jpgSo the first two positions on your team of the season have been filled. After a day’s solid voting, you selected Liverpool’s Steve Finnan in the right-back position, to add to Chelsea goalie Petr Cech. Another fine decision, Pies’ readers. Finnan is still underrated and he’s had a terrific season for the ‘Pool. He scored (at time of posting) 34% of the vote.
Today we’re asking you to vote on the season’s best-performing left-back. Will Cashley Cole get your vote? Or how about Reading’s Nicky Shorey? To vote, click the link below…

  1. Rob P says:

Think this could be a close one.

  2. Ollie, Pies Ed. says:

Agree Rob – Cech and Finnan were fairly clear-cut, to me anyway. My vote goes to Shorey, with Evra a very close second and Baines third.

  3. cole says:

My best would go to Baines. He has performed excellently in a team that have otherwise struggled at the back and has scored some cracking goals to boot. Not something you would normally expect from a LB.
Evra gets special mention, chiefly for ousting Heinze from his automatic selection in this position (something that would have been inconceivable twelve months ago).
Not the best left-back of the season, but I think Wayne Bridge has excelled when needed for Chelsea and brings a lot more to their attacking play than Cashley. Premiership Stats from Fantasy League for example:
Bridge: Played 12, Assists 4, Clean Sheets 8, Goals Against 6
Cashley: Played 21, Assists 2, Clean Sheets 9, Goals Against 15
    My tuppence worth.
PS When am I going to hear about my lovely free Goalhanger tee?

  4. Ollie, Pies Ed. says:

Patience Cole! I’ll get on to it now…

  5. Andrew says:

I have to say that Clichy has been quite good. He should at least be in the voting.

  6. Pete says:

I was a bit surprised joleon lescott wasnt even in the voting. He has proved to have been a really reliable player for the toffees this season, filling in wherever needed, and has played a major part in their strong league position. Has popped up with a couple of important goals too.
Apart from that, evra and baines have also been very impressive, both attacking wise and very sound defensively.

  7. joe says:

Baines for me definitely! I’ll snub my two Chelsea representatives. His strikes are incredible!

  8. harry says:

Clichy deserves to be on there, he’s so fast and though he is rubbish at shooting he does get into the box…
