76155.jpgJamie Carragher just missed out on a place in your team of the season. In central defence you chose Nemanja Vidic and Joleon Lescott, two of Pies’ favourite Bond villains. Carra is unlucky to miss out, but Lescott is a fine choice – he has fitted in very well at Goodison. Vidic has been immense this season and few would dispute his selection.
Vidic and Lescott are the final piece in the defence. Your team of the season is starting to take shape. It now looks like this: Petr Cech (Chelsea), Steve Finnan (Liverpool), Patrice Evra (Man Utd), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd). A pretty strong back five, I’m sure you’ll agree. Today we want you to vote for two central midfielders (we figured a classic 4-4-2 formation makes sense). Click below to see our shortlist and register your vote…

Choose your two favourite central midfielders (you can make multiple choices) from the poll below. You can only vote once, so think carefully!

PS. It can be hard to distinguish between a central/defensive midfielder and a wide/attacking midfielder – players are so versatile these days (see Michael Essien, who could feature in three or four of these votes). We’ll put a poll up for the latter tomorrow. If you’re wondering where the likes of Steven Gerrard, Gareth Barry and Mikel Arteta are, we’ve included them in the wide/attacking midfield category – they haven’t been forgotten!
If you feel very strongly that we’ve left anyone off this shortlist, please add a comment…

I think Tom Huddlestone’s mum may have visited this site 215 times.

  2. Ollie, Pies Ed. says:

Hmm, think something fishy was going on with Tom Huddlestone’s vote, so I’ve decided to delete him from the poll. He only just made it in anyway.

  3. Guernsey Cow says:

The Bunker was deserved of those votes, i think he should be reinstated and put in the team of the season.

  4. Ron Burgundy says:

Tom Hoddlestone should be reinstated, I’m sure those votes were won fair and square. The majestic half volley against Manchester City is surely enough to win him a place alone. Not to mention the sheer physical presence he provides an otherwise diminutive Spurs midfield with. All this before mentioning the simply outstanding range of passing that has drawn comparisons (which I feel unfair, THE BUNKER is much better) than that great Spurs legend, Glenn Hoddle.
Surely position in the team of the season should be awarded not on their ability compared to peers in other teams (although THE BUNKER would inevitably still be deserved of a place) but of their influence on their team week in week out in which case THE BUNKER has been simply in a different class. To paraphrase John F. Kennedy, “ask not what your team can do for you[r reputation] but what you can do for your team.” I think THE BUNKER epitomises that spirit and belief.

  5. General Georgi Koskov says:

Huddlestone in; get your rubbish chat out WAATP. Next.

  6. Guernsey Cow says:

Couldnt have said it better. Tom ‘The Bunker’ Huddlestone is a man mountain he deserves to be in the team his performances have been nothing short of majestic, wouldnt like to see Ronaldo take him on, Good night Vienna….

  7. Ollie, Pies Ed. says:

No, Pies has spoken. The Bunker must go.

  8. Pete says:

    George Boateng 115 votes???

  9. Ollie, Pies Ed. says:

Hmm, suspicious. People can only vote once, so I guess a Boro forum has been boosting his vote? He’s had a solid season, but he doesn’t deserve to be in second place!

  10. Dem Ocracy says:

But surely he does deserve to be in second place if people have voted him to second place. This is a democracy we live in remember… isn’t it?

  11. Ollie, Pies Ed. says:

No, Pies is a dictator state where we make the rules and that’s that!

  12. Guernsey Cow says:

Exactly…. people can only vote once so i dont see why Tom ‘The Bunker’ Huddlestone general all round massive lad, was removed then reinstated with no votes.

  13. Dem Ocracy says:

Perhaps Pies is an Arsenal fan.

  14. Ollie, Pies Ed. says:

Guernsey Cow, I’ve got a record of how many Huddlestone had, so I’ll add that to his final total. You’re right – if we’re asking for you to vote (and u only get one vote), I can’t play God and move the goalposts. So the Bunker is back in, with more than 200 votes to add to his current total…
PS I’m a Spurs fan Dem Ocracy!

  15. Guernsey Cow says:

Surely many people didnt think that 8 man u players should have been in the team of the season or that C Ronaldo should have been player of the season, but it was the players opinion and votes that made him Player of the season.
It was a demcratical decision, everyone had one vote and Ronaldo won, as is the case with this vote, one vote see who wins its up to the fans to decide. If the fans want George to win then let George win. If they want Essien then let Essien be in the team.

  16. baldista says:

talking abt arsenal fans, cant believe cesc has more votes than gilberto…

  17. Michael says:

    > Hmm, suspicious. People can only vote once, so I guess a Boro forum has been boosting his vote? He’s had a solid season, but he doesn’t deserve to be in second place!
He doesn’t, and thats from a Boro fan!

  18. Anonymous says:

i can vote more than one time, so that huddlestone mum scenario is very possible

  19. joe says:

Essien and Scholes for me. Fabregas would replace Scholes if he hadn’t just broken his scoring duck this term.

  20. baldista says:

yep… essien and scholes does seem a solid bet

  21. Anonymous says:

The Bunker and Essien all day, the midfield would be bossed, power pace booming shots everything you need to dominate every midfield around. if not then the Bunker and Fabregas, the Bunker is like Viera but can shoot and is English
