Transfer Balls: Rounding up the day’s football tittle-tattle so you don’t have to…

United Schweet On Schweini

World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger is a target for Man Utd, according to the Express. The 30-year-old Bayern superstar only has a year left on his current contract and is in no hurry to sign another deal with the Bundesliga giants.

With Michael Carrick almost 34, Louis Van Gaal is in need of some central midfield reinforcements, with Schweini a player who has done it all and seen it all. And with a £10million fee quoted, the move would be value-for-money deal.

Lamela The Fella For Juve

Erik Lamela has struggled to make his mark in the Premier League with Tottenham since his move from Roma, and according to the Mail, the winger could be heading back to Serie A. Champions League finalists Juventus are rumoured to be sniffing around the gifted if inconsistent 23-year-old, and are apparently willing to stump up the £25million Spurs paid Roma.

Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Lamela, despite his failure to shine in England, but a chance to recoup the full cost of the player may just sway the Lilywhites’ boss.

Inter Milan Looking At Lucas

The Mirror tells us that midfielder Lucas could be out the door at Anfield this summer, with Inter Milan eager to snap up the Brazilian anchorman. The Serie A giants tried to get their man in January, but while Brendan Rodgers refused any deal then, the Reds’ boss is apparently now ready to do business with the Italians for the 28-year-old.

According to the Mirror, the proposed sale of Lucas would clear space in the squad for the arrival of Man City’s James Milner on a free transfer. Although with the likes of Arsenal also in the running for Milner, the England man’s future is still up in the air. The Lucas part does sound feasible though.

Gundogan Gone To Barca

A one time target for Manchester United, Ilkay Gundogan has moved a step closer to joining Barcelona according to the Mail (via Bild). The 24-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder has apparently already passed a medical (done in Germany) for the La Liga giants although the move won’t actually happen until next January, due to the Catalan club’s current transfer ban.

Seems like a decent replacement for Xavi to me.

Black Cats After Great Bitton

Fresh from securing their Premier League survival at the Emirates on Wednesday, Sunderland are now planning for next season in the top-tier, according to the Daily Record, with Celtic’s Nir Bitton a summer transfer target. The Israeli midfielder has shone for the Bhoys since his move from FC Ashdod in 2013, with his performance in the Europa League against Inter Milan catching the eye of the Black Cats’ head honchos.

While manager Dick Advocaat has yet to clarify his future at Sunderland, the club are set on signing the £5million-rated Bitton as they look to strengthen their squad and avoid another nail-biting relegation battle next year.

The best/worst of the rest:

Brazilian full-back Dani Alves is set to leave Barcelona in the summer, Man Utd defender Jonny Evans is being eyed by both Everton and Tottenham, with the north Londoners also battling it out with rivals Arsenal for Espanyol defender Hector Moreno.
