One to watch: Bojan Krkic, Barcelona & Spain

I’ve been reading a lot about Bojan Krkic in the last couple of weeks. He’s a 16-year-old striker on the books of Barcelona and there’s every chance he’ll break into Barca’s first-team squad next season. He made his debut for Barcelona’s first team in a friendly against Al-Ahly in Cairo last week, and scored, prompting head coach Frank Rijkaard to praise Krkic’s ‘great talent, coolness and class’. His scoring record at Barca is incredible – he has scored 889 goals in seven years. This clip hints at his supreme finishing prowess:

A couple more clips of Krkic after the break…

Krkic’s father, Bojan Snr, was a well-regarded footballer in Serbia, where he played for Red Star Belgrade, and a scout for FC Barcelona since 1997. His mother is of Catalan descent and Krkic Jnr is now qualified to play international football for Spain.
All the signs are that Krkic could be a very special player indeed. He’s not as sublimely skilled as prodigious team-mates Lionel Messi or Gio Dos Santos, but I’d say he has what it takes to achieve more than either, simply because his main talent is a ruthless, Romario-like instinct for scoring goals. He’s also a terrific dribbler, although he could do with filling out a bit if he is to compete against Europe’s top defenders in the next couple of years. I can’t wait to see how he develops.

889 goals in 7 years at Barca- by a 16-year-old? Looks like little Muhammad Demirci has a new playmate.

Not that this matters in real life, but Bojan is immense in FM’07.
