The Old Lady of Italian football showed experience counts for everything as she bounced back from Serie B in style. Juventus opened their Serie A campaign with a 5-1 thumping of Livorno. Striker partners David Trezeguet and Vicenzo Iaquinta (pictured above) were on fire, weighing in with a hat-trick and a brace respectively. The margin of the victory sent Juve to the top of the table. Click below for highlights of the game.

Catania manager Silvio Baldini gives Parma manager Domenico Di Carlo a kick up the arse after being red-carded at the weekend.

Baldini later apologised for the incident – to everyone except Di Carlo. He said: “I apologise to everyone. To Catania’s fans, to the whole city, especially after what happened last February 2 (when a policeman was killed during fighting at the Catania-Palermo derby), and to Parma’s fans, as my attack was certainly not intended at them. But I do not apologise to him. I don’t owe Di Carlo anything: he is a flawed person and he provoked me.”
