After world-scaring wins against Andorra (Kerpow!) and Macedonia (Zap!), England‘s superheroes are up to fourth in the world rankings, equalling our all-time high (Glenn Hoddle’s England also made it to fourth, in 1997) – that’s according to FIFA, the men who know about such things. Italy have dropped to fifth, so winning the World Cup isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, clearly. Elsewhere, Scotland leap six places to 34th, and Northern Ireland jump a massive 14 places off the back of their win against Spain. Lawrie’s lads are now ranked a respectable 58th.

At least the USA aren’t in there. I’d say that England are a few places higher than they deserve to be, whilst Germany should be higher than both Holland and the Czech Republic – apart from that the list looks about right.
