How healthy is your heart? Log on to Man MOT to speak with a GP on World Heart Day

Sponsored post from Pfizer

As you may already know heart disease is the number one threat to men’s health in Britain with one in every four men dying from the disease. So what can you do to keep the risk to a minimum? Do you know what your blood pressure is? Or how about your cholesterol levels? One way to find out is to speak freely and confidentially to a GP at our next online session.

Date: Monday 27th September
Time: 6 – 11 pm
Where: www.manmot.co.uk

MAINTAINING A HEALTHY HEART – KNOW THE FACTS

* Being aware of the risk factors of heart disease and keeping your heart healthy could help prevent a heart attack
* A high cholesterol level is one of the most significant risk factors for developing heart disease and more than one in two men have raised cholesterol levels
* Other risk factors include high blood pressure, a family history of inherited high cholesterol or heart disease, erectile dysfunction and diabetes
* Men who have these and other risk factors are encouraged to speak to their doctor to find out more about what they can do to keep their heart healthy for the future

Jules Payne, CEO of HEART UK – The Cholesterol Charity – said, “We know that men have a poor track record when it comes to seeing their doctor. We also know that heart disease is the biggest killer of men in the UK. We should be encouraging men to visit their doctor and have their risk assessed. This includes checking cholesterol, blood pressure and waist circumference. Knowing your risk is often the first step to improving your lifestyle and having a healthier heart.”

An online evening surgery has been launched to encourage men to seek professional health advice in the privacy of their own home. The online surgery will offer professional health advice on a broad range of health issues, in total confidence, from qualified GPs.
Take action! Men worried about their heart health – or any other health issue – can log onto www.manmot.co.uk for a confidential live web-consultation with a GP between 6pm and 11pm on 27th September 2010.

Our GPs can talk to you about any health problem, suggest the best course of action to take, and direct you to appropriate health services if necessary. However, as they do not have access to your medical records and are not able to perform a clinical examination, they cannot give individualised medical advice or offer a specific medical diagnosis.

ManMOT (www.manmot.co.uk) is the UK’s first online health surgery including dedicated sexual health clinics exclusively for men. The online surgery will offer professional health advice on a broad range of health issues, in total confidence, from qualified GPs. Sex and relationship expert Tracey Cox and Relate counsellors will also be hosting a series of specialist sexual health and relationship clinics.

The online surgery is funded by Pfizer and is supported by National Obesity Forum, Men’s Health Forum, Sexual Advice Association, Relate, HEART UK and Diabetes UK. Please note that as the GPs are not aware of each user’s full medical history they cannot give individualised medical advice, but can refer them to their own GP if issues of concern arise.
