Chris Waddle was in it for a laugh, although he has since said of his debut appearance on Top of the Pops: ‘I’m not joking when I say that standing on that stage was more nerve-wracking than taking that penalty [for England against Germany at Italia ’90] in Turin. Prattish Glenn Hoddle actually seemed to think he could be the new Nik Kershaw. Diamond Lights is worse than Gazza’s ‘Fog on the Tyne’, and that’s saying something.
Btw, I can’t find a clip of Glenn and Chris in action (it’s not on YouTube, as far as I can tell) – if any Pies readers can help, please let us know…
