2011/12 Premier League Preview: Week 4
Three matches in and there are already a few things we know about the Premiership.
1 That Manchester United will hit double figures against some poor unfortunates this season
2 Thanks to some serious spending QPR might just end up being the second most successful West London club this season
3 Gary Cahill will go in the January transfer window for £20 million plus
4 There are at least a dozen commentators hoping that Denis Stracqualursi isn’t a success at Everton
5 Shane Long might just make the difference between West Brom staying up
So on to this week’s games brought to you in conjunction with our betting sponsors www.thevipgambler.com . Here’s our predictions and our latest odds, let’s your have your thoughts in the comments.
Saturday
Arsenal v Swansea, 15:00 2-0
So all those Arsenal fans looking forward to seeing Per Mertesacker playing alongside Thomas Vermaelen will have to wait for a few months now after the latter’s operation. Arsenal might also be without Walcott who picked up a knock with England this week. Still all these injuries mean Wenger could give a run out to several of many new signings (Oxlade-Chamberlain?) who should still prove to be to strong for Swansea
Arsenal vs. Swansea Betting Tips
Everton v Aston Villa, 15:00 0-0
Arteta who? Everton have a ready made replacement in Jack Rodwell provided he can keep injury free. Although I think anyone who thinks Moyes men can secure a top six finish is dreaming. Same too with Villa whose fans must have loved watching no fewer than six of their ex players donning England shirts on Tuesday. Everton squeaked past Blackburn two weeks ago thanks to an Arteta penalty, while Villa couldn’t get past Wolves at home. This has no score draw (and MOTD graveyard) written all over it.
Everton v Aston Villa Betting Tips
Man City v Wigan, 15:00 3-0
If Dzeko, Aguero, Nasri and co can stick four past Spurs away from home, think what they can do at home against Wigan side who couldn’t score away against Swansea. This will propel City to the top, for how long remains anyone’s guess.
Stoke v Liverpool, 15:00 1-0
Liverpool’s impressive start to the season is bound to come off the rails soon and I am going for an away trip to Stoke for things to start going a little awry. A Pennant cross nodded home by new boy Crouch would do the trick.
Stoke v Liverpool Betting Tips
Sunderland v Chelsea, 15:00 1-2
So the self proclaimed best footballer in the universe lands on Wearside to team up once again with Steve Bruce – who admittedly got a lot of good things from him during their stint at Birmingham. I think Nick Bendtner is a much a better striker than a lot of Gooners think he is, and after scoring twice for Denmark this week he’ll stick one past gaffe-prone Hilario. Won’t be enough though for Chelsea’s attacking options, even without Drogba, will surely be too strong for Steve Bruce’s men.
Sunderland v Chelsea Betting Tips
Wolverhampton v Tottenham, 15:00 1-1
Well Harry, the season starts here or not at all. Anything short of three points could see North London’s finest (coughs) anchored to the bottom of the prem. It’ll be 2008 all over again. Wolves are looking interesting this season and I think could be strong enough to share the spoils.
Bolton v Man Utd, 17:30 0-1
Losing 2-3 to Man City on the opening day of the season is now looking like a really good result. So can the Wanderers repeat that, ahem, success against the other set of Mancunians? United have come a cropper before against Bolton before and their potent strike force surely won’t have it quite as easy as they did against Arsenal. My head says the Reds will march on, but it will be close.
Sunday
Norwich v West Brom, 13:30 0-1
A relegation six pointer so early in the season. Norwich are one of my tips for the drop and if they can’t beat a West Brom team that haven’t made the best of starts they could be in serious trouble. Buoyed by the arrival of Shane Long, a player who really looks like he will make a significant impact this season, the Baggies will just sneak this.
Norwich v West Brom Betting Tips
Fulham v Blackburn, 16:00 0-2
Scott Dann and Chris Samba were just a whisker away from being the new Arsenal centre back pairing. What’s good enough for the Gooners should give an extra bit of stability to a Blackburn defence that held out for long against Everton. With Yakuba bound to do his usual trick of looking brilliant for the first month he plays for a new club I fancy the northerners to sneak this.
Fulham v Blackburn Betting Tips
Monday
QPR v Newcastle, 20:00 1-1
This is a tough one. On one hand Newcastle have a striker on fire in Leon Best and have confidence in bags after three good results. But then that Neil Warnock is a canny fella and in Wright-Philips, Ferdinand, Barton and maybe even Traore, he has made some astute signings. I think this could close and edgy but a couple of goals should leave both sets of fans reasonably happy.

Six former Villa players? I can only think of 5 who was the other one?
The prediction about Stoke v Liverpool is a bit off mate. :)
Fingers crossed but I think Liverpool will walk away from this one with 3 points.
This is one of the worst articles I have ever read on WAATP. It’s riddled with spelling mistakes (do you not know the correct form of “too?”), no fact checking at ALL (Bolton played City the SECOND match of the season, not first), Shane Long is 50/50 for the game against Norwich but you didn’t take that into account. Also, why is Liverpool going to struggle against Stoke? It could definitely happen but you didn’t list a reason as to WHY it would.
