David Beckham’s MLS franchise has taken another step forward today with the unveiling of the club’s official name and badge.

Four years on from the project beginning, Club Internacional de Futbol Miami (or Inter Miami CF, for short) have a crest and it looks like something from GTA: Vice City and we’re totally on board with that…

Very tasteful. Something tells us that marque on slick Adidas merchandise is going to score highly with the football hipster crowd. Now all they need is a stadium.

Inter Miami made their big reveal with a front-page advert on the cover of the Miami Herald newspaper, with Beckham hyping the “important step” in establishing his new club, which he hopes will be up, running and competing in MLS by 2020 – hence the Roman numerals on the crest.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ve just got to nip down to the harbour and whack a snitch for Ken Rosenberg.

I see what you did there @Chris…

With this milestone, I’m sure Beckham has been practicing his Lance Vance dance!

Well, Atlanta FC was created 3 years ago or something and they are by far the most (maybe the only) interesting team in the USA. I hope Inter Milan (ops, Miami) can do the same.

Becks could have used his power to sway MLS on the whole relegation / promotion absence…but I guess the present system is attractive to owners.

  4. Martin says:

@Bruno: interesting on the basis of what? For more exciting or interesting teams look to the Pacific Northwest with either Portland or Seattle.

I like the logo and all, but am I the only one slightly bothered by “Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami” abbreviating to… “Inter Miami CF”? Is it that hard to understand how abbreviations work?

  6. Steve says:

Great logo. What an idiotic name though.

I despise the way US Soccer Federation and MLS shut other clubs out by not embracing pro/rel but I will admit the league is producing more reasonably quality sides. Bruno, you’re right to point out Atlanta but it’s worth noting that they aren’t even the best team in their division. Clubs like FC Dallas, LAFC, NYRB, et al are actually trying to play proper modern football and it’s paying off. There are very watchable sides outside of just Atlanta, even if the overall quality is certainly still not all that high yet.
