Bid-backer extraordinaire, ovation milker par excellence, newly-crowned BBC ‘Greatest Single Entity in the Known Universe’ and part-time LA Galaxy quarterback David Beckham has begun touting for a return to Europe on loan during the MLS off-season in a bid to win back his place in the England squad – that’s right, never give up hope Becksy, NEVER!

Speaking after being bestowed with a Beeb ‘lifetime acheivement’ award on Saturday night, Beckham (who, incidentally, attended the ceremony dressed as himself but from 15 years ago) put out the feelers:

“I won’t be going back to AC Milan this time because is not possible to go onto the roster for such a short length of time, but I will be going back somewhere as I want to keep myself fit and keep myself in with a chance of getting called up for England again.

“To do that, I have to be somewhere, so fingers crossed I can sort something out.”

Becks also mentioned the Premier League in passing, but admitted that a certain vow he made in the past may restrict his English options:

“I have always missed playing in the Premier League since I left it almost eight years ago.

“It is a great league and one of the most competitive in the world. Maybe one day I will come back here but I have always said that it will only be for Manchester United. I am not holding my breath on that one, but we will have to wait and see.

“But definitely not Preston [where United farmed him out on loan as a teenager, it’s too cold up there!”

Any guesses? I’ve got a hankering for Blackburn, given their newly-found ‘Hollywood’ tendencies.

I think going to Man Utd would be quite a good move for both parties. Beckham gets his wish to play for Utd again, and still tests himself with a top club in a competitive league. And, it would work for Utd as well, as they get a player who can actually cross the ball, which is something they’ve been missing since Valenica got injured. They would also sell a shitload of shirts, which is always good. It depends on whether his wages are too unreasonable, and whether Fergie is ready to forgive and forget.

I don’t think fergie would role over not even for becks I think he should it would be amazing for both parties but in the process might dent fergie. Will he just keep using him as an example of you don’t fuck with him?

^^^^ Good point, Beckham is the ultimate cautionary tale of the dangers of crossing Ferguson, he might prefer to leave him that way…

    Preston’s freezing compared to Manchester.

If you could inform me in few words what happend with fergie and becks?

  6. Chris says:

@Gera: Basically, Ferguson never quite got to grips with ‘Brand Beckham’ (i.e. the fact that he quickly became a ‘celebrity’ around the early 2000’s), and frequently criticised him for prioritising his personal life over his football.

Ferguson then kicked a boot at Beckham’s face at half-time against Arsenal (famously cutting him above the eye) in Feb 2003 and relations completely deteriorated rapidly thereafter – he was sold to Real Madrid six months later.

Yea he’s a good player but he only wants back in the England squad to boost his appearance stats so he looks like he contibuted. Any club other than an MLS outfit (where players are put to pasture) would be daft to sign him: they’d go bankrupt paying his wages and do a huge facepalm when he gets injured in his second game on loan.

Becks whipping balls into the box for Any Carroll would be a dream, and thats exactly how it will stay…a dream
