Stoke City have reignited negotiations with Portsmouth regarding veteran ‘keeper David James‘ on-off loan move to The Britannia. Initial talks fell through last Friday as the two teams could not agree over how much of James’ £40,000-a-week wages Stoke would have to contribute.

However, Potter’s boss Tony Pulis is still keen to recruit the 39 year old stopper and has proposed a revised offer to Pompey. It is thought that the deal will remain in the form of a loan until the summer – plus a one year extension thereafter – but with the financial terms slightly improved in Pompey’s favour.

It looks as though the transfer is more likely to be agreed upon this time, as Portsmouth are growing increasingly desperate to alleviate James’ huge salary from their outgoings as their spiralling debts mount.
