Snapshot: Newcastle Remove ‘St James Park’ Name From Stadium, Geordie Answer To Banksy Replaces It

By Chris Wright

As part of the Newcastle United owners’ long-standing ‘Poke The Geordies With A Sharp Stick’ campaign, Mike Ashley and co. removed all the St James’ Park signs around the ground yesterday, being as though the club now technically play their home games at the illustrious Sports Direct Arena.

The ‘St James’ signs were taken down in a bid to showcase to potential investors and interested parties just how suitable the walls of the stadium are for putting things on though – presumably labouring under the illusion that the signs may have fallen off during the night – a kindly amateur sign-writer from the North East replaced the lettering with a Banksy-esque version of his very own…

Good attempt, though Newcastle obviously weren’t happy with the ‘rustic’ effect that the artist was going for, as a phalanx of hi-vis workmen arrived earlier this morning to blast it off with a Karcher.

Boo!
