Arsenal 4-1 Newcastle – Premier League – 13th December 2014
Coming off the back of a 4-1 Champions League win in Galatasaray, Arsenal repeated the scoreline with a convincing win against Newcastle at the Emirates.
Both Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla bagged (superb) braces against a Newcastle side which, shorn of Moussa Sissoko, rarely threatened the Arsenal goal. However, the Gunners’ makeshift backline which saw Mathieu Debuchy in an unfamiliar centre-back role, did concede once again from a simple free-kick, when an unmarked Ayoze Perez headed home from a Jack Colback free-kick. That made the score 3-1 with the Emirates’ faithful fearing another capitulation. However, instead, Cazorla dinked home a cheeky chipped penalty after Paul Dummett’s foul on Danny Welbeck.
“One Arsene Wenger” sang the home fans as the Gunners went sixth, three points above Alan Pardew’s Magpies.
