Newcastle United 3-3 Burnley – Premier League – 1st January 2015
Managerless Newcastle United and Premier League strugglers Burnley produced a cracker at St. James Park on Thursday, with the New Year’s Day crowd treated to a six-goal thriller.
Caretaker boss Jon Carver saw the Magpies take the lead early on, courtesy of a 15th minute Steven Taylor header, only for a Paul Dummett OG to level the scores soon after. A superb Jack Colback effort restored the hosts’ lead on 26 minutes with the Clarets losing both captain Jason Shackell and his replacement Kevin Long to injury in the first period.
In the second-half, the Clarets got back on level terms courtesy of Danny Ings but once again the Magpies got themselves in front, this time courtesy of Moussa Sissoko. However, Burnley had produced a fine comeback at the Etihad a few days ago and once again they fought back to get a point, via George Boyd’s late equaliser.
The Magpies are now 10th while Sean Dyche’s side are 19th, a point off safety.
