Manchester City 5-0 Newcastle United – Premier League – 21st February 2015
Manchester City moved to within five points of league leaders Chelsea after battering Newcastle at the Etihad.
With Yaya Touré back in the side following the Ivory Coast’s victorious Africa Cup of Nations campaign, the Citizens totally dominated with the opening goal coming after just two minutes, courtesy of a Sergio Aguero spot-kick. By half-time, the hosts were 3-0, with Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko finding the net against a Newcastle side who were dismal throughout.
A quick-fire second-half brace from David Silva sealed the deal for the Citizens with Manuel Pellegrini giving Wilfried Bony his debut for the club in a cameo role. As for the Magpies, they were second-best in all areas of the pitch and have now won just one of eight games under interim boss John Carver.
While City keep up the pressure on Chelsea, the Magpies stay 11th.
