Steve McClaren’s tenure at St. James’ Park could well be coming to a close, after Newcastle United suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, a result which sees the Magpies stay in the bottom three, one point from safety.

Understandably, the defeat wasn’t appreciated by the Toon Army, with one fan throwing their season ticket at the dugout in disgust.

Considering the fact that McClaren has spent a fair amount of money since moving to Newcastle in the summer, there really are no excuses for the Magpies’ haul of just 24 points from their 28 games.

And against the Cherries on Saturday, the home side were dismal, with an own-goal from Steven Taylor, followed by goals from Josh King and Charlie Daniels giving the visitors a deserved win.

Ayoze Perez had got one back to make it 2-1, but overall, Newcastle didn’t deserve anything out of the game, leading one fan to lob their season ticket onto the roof of the dugout (although, to be fair, there’s only four home games left)…

At the final whistle, the boos rang out at St. James’ Park, with relegation now a strong possibility…

As for former England manager McClaren, his days looked numbered on Tyneside. But will owner Mike Ashley jettison McClaren now, with 10 games to play, or stick with him until at least the end of the season?

As for Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth, they go 14th, a hefty 11 points clear of the drop-zone.

To be fair, circumstances worked against Newcastle. Had the match ended immediately after the opening whistle, the Toon would have been able to claim a point. As it was, this didn’t happen, and two additional points were claimed by Bournemouth.

Looks like Moyes, Rodgers & Benitez are being mooted.

If I were a Geordie I’d take Rodgers, his style of play would please the St James Park faithful.

The fans don’t expect to win every game, but they do expect to be entertained.
